I
am at a marvelous place in life…my child is a productive
citizen, my husband likes his job and the desire of
his heart is for me to be happy. Painting makes me
happy. Painting outside in nature makes me deliriously
happy, but even painting in the studio works! Like
many middle aged folks, I came to realize that I had
worked most of my life in jobs that fulfilled material
needs but did nothing to fulfill the desires of my heart
and soul. I have always been interested in art. I remember
telling my father that I wanted to be a commercial artist.
Being a good father, he promptly convinced me
to get an education with which I could support myself.
When I turned 40 I began
taking a few local art classes and painting weekly.
As I painted, I discovered me. Inside me
all these years lived an artist. I
have been on this creative journey for about nine years
now. I study with artists whose work I admire,
I read and reread art text, and I try to paint at least
every other day. Nature is a master of composition and
color; therefore, the most important thing I do is observe
the world around me. Although
I am not exclusively a landscape painter, it is my first
love. I am most content when painting vistas of
strange lands. I am thrilled when I visit a new
site that offers fresh opportunities to respectfully
attempt to emulate nature with oil paint and canvas.
